Brief History of the Society

Fernhurst Choral Society (FCS) was formed in 1953 to sing at the village pageant in Fernhurst to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.  The following year the Society performed and competed at the Petersfield Musical Festival.  The cost of belonging to FCS in those days was one shilling per week (5p in new money), for which members received all their music, a coach ride to and from the Petersfield Festival Hall and tea on the day of the Festival.
We still enjoy singing at the Petersfield Musical Festival although now we do not receive free tea and coach rides!

Fernhurst Choral Society, which became a registered charity in 1998, has had six musical directors since 1953: Mrs Saunders, Robin Ore, Alan Drake, Philip Young, Terence Allbright and Giles White.  Giles celebrated his 10th anniversary as Musical Director in the summer of 2008.
