The Fernhurst Cricket Club play on the Recreation Ground adjacent to the Village Green and 'The Red Lion' public house, which is a five minute walk down Church Road from the village centre. It is a friendly, well established club in an idyllic setting with first class facilities. They field one Saturday team which plays in the I'Anson Cricket League Div 3 and a Sunday team which plays friendly cricket against several other local village clubs, as well as entertaining a number of teams from the London area, including Sir Tim Rice's Heartaches. The pavilion is fairly modern with reasonable size changing rooms and a shower room, a nice sized lounge area together with a kitchen and licensed bar. It also has it's own car park adjacent to the pavilion. The ground itself is quite large as it boasts two football pitches in the winter and is renowned to have one of the best wickets in the I'Anson League. For visitors who bring families, there is also a fenced-in childrens play area with swings etc. The History of Fernhurst Cricket Club 1889 - 2008 |

The earliest records of the club
date back to the year 1889 in which matches were recorded against
Lynchmere, Wispers and the The Marshes. |
With a newly formed 2nd X1, the
millennium year 2000 saw Fernhurst in both Divisions 1 and 5 of the
I'Anson League and continuing success with the 1st X1
finishing 5th and the 2nd X1 carrying off the
Norman Disney Trophy as Division 5 Champions. In
2001 the 1st X1 finished 6th in Division 1 and the
2nd X1 won Division 4 and the Bob Birchett
Shield. In 2003 the 2nd X1 was disbanded though a shortage of players and the 1st X1 was relegated to Division 2. Three poor seasons were followed by relegation to Division 3 in 2006. However in 2007, some of the junior players (15 - 17 year olds) began to shine and under the captaincy of Mike Allen finished 6th in Division 3, the last eight games being negotiated without defeat. |
