Jean's Verses

Jean Staveley came to live in Fernhurst in 1985 and very soon became involved in village organisations, particularly the church.  She learned to play the organ and at the age of 65 was appointed organist at St. Margaret’s, a post which she held for 16 years until she retired.  She is still very involved in church affairs and plays the keyboard with a small music group.  Her piano playing became an asset to the Verdley Carollers and the Fernhurst Optimists until both organisations sadly reached their demise.

In 2006 Jean suddenly started to write poetry and had Verse or Worse published, followed by Even Worse Verse in 2007.  Several of her comic verses have been published in the Daily Mail and she generally writes a special one every fortnight for the Good Companions meetings.  She has recently self-published her latest effort Odds and Ends, using the computer skills she learnt at the Fernhurst Centre.

She hopes that the poetic muse will not desert her but will continue to inspire her to fulfil her ambition of making people laugh.
