1st Fernhurst Scouts Newsletter
Wow!! That’s all I can say about Family Camp. As a new venture for the group it was a tremendous success. The weather was spectacular – although the campers will tell you it was cold at night!! Robin Barnes, the owner of the field we used, was very impressed with the condition we left the field in, so many thanks to those who helped us clear the site, and those who took rubbish away. Thanks so much to everyone who came along for whatever portion of the camp. I could list names, but I will probably miss someone out! So you know who you are – many, many thanks. The question on everyone’s lips seems to be – are we doing it again next year – probably not, may be 2010!
Many of you had a go at the wide variety of activities we had on the site – the fire lighting was very popular with the adults, and the climbing with everyone. Maybe this has inspired some of you to think about getting more involved with the Scout Group. Maybe as a more regular parent helper, or background helper, helping with the organising of the evening’s activities, helping with weekend events, whatever. If you do think you would like to get more involved, in any way, please speak to any of the leaders or myself at any time. One of our parents enjoyed themselves so much they have already decided to become part of our team – is there any more out there who feel the same?
Our next event for the Centenary is the Open Morning at the Village Hall on 22nd Nov, where we hope to have displays about Scouting in Fernhurst Past and Present. The hall is booked from 9 .00am until 4.00pm, with the display open from 10.00am until 3.30pm. If you think you could help with teas and coffees, please return the form below as soon as possible.
We have had a few items of memorabilia offered to us already, but I’m sure there is much more out there!! If you know of anyone who used to be connected to the group, either as a young person, or as a leader or parent, please let me have their details and I will get in contact with them. Also if you know of any ex-members who have moved away please let them know what we are doing, as it would be nice to see some old faces. Or maybe you are an old member of Scouting in Fernhurst, or even anywhere else, maybe you have some memorabilia of you Scouting times at home that you would be willing to share.
November 9th - Remembrance Sunday. This is at St. Margaret’s church in Fernhurst, meeting at the Village Green at 10.30am in full uniform – that is shirts or sweatshirts, neckerchiefs with woggles, blue trousers (no jeans) and smart shoes. This is a chance for us to show off to the village community and we do expect all members to look smart. Cubs and Scouts will parade from the green to the memorial outside the church and then into the service in the church. The Beavers will stay with their parents or a responsible adult during the memorial part of the service, and then join the Cubs and Scouts in the church.
November 22nd – Open day at the village Hall. Hopefully we will be displaying photos and accounts about Scouting over the last 100 years. If you know anyone who would be willing to contribute items, we would be grateful if they got in contact. There must be many people out there who have memories of the Group
The Beavers are still trying to collect £100 in pennies. They are well on their way - with over £80 collected. The money raised will be split between the section and Canine Partners. If anyone else in the group has any spare pennies, even if only one or two, please pop them in the box in the hall towards the Beavers target.
We continue to try to make ourselves greener as a group. A number of people have asked to have their letters e-mailed to them, so hopefully things are beginning to improve. Please let me know if you wish to have your future letters e-mailed, and that you check your inbox at least once every couple of days. (email@example.com)
